Fahcore_81.exe
Okay
Got home today..switched on to check mail and copy movies from one drive to another.
I noticed the PC was going vey slow...so I checked the processes running... and found fahcore_82.exe (this also runs as 81) running...sometime pushing the CPU utilisation to 100% It hovers from anything around 52% to 100%
So I did a bit of digging..looks like the Folding At Home has some app that has remotely been installed something on my PC...see various links below
I have not had this before and am battling to remove it...so if you guys are experiencing sudden slow responses (mine started today) look at see what processors are running.
http://www.techsupportforum.com/microsoft-support/windows-xp-support/209981-fahcore_82-exe.html
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic74606.html
I'm still investigating...I will advise the outcome

Re: Fahcore_81.exe
File FahCore_82.exe is located in a subfolder of "C:\Program Files". The file size on Windows XP is 1683456 bytes.
There is no file information. The program has no visible window. FahCore_82.exe is not a Windows core file. Therefore the technical security rating is 56% dangerous.
Some malware camouflage themselves as FahCore_82.exe, particularly if they are located in c:\windows or c:\windows\system32 folder. Thus check the FahCore_82.exe process on your pc whether it is pest. Try something like Security Task Manager for verifying your computer's security
ALSO:
I found out for myself that if you update certain programs without re-booting. It will allow FAHCore_82.exe to take full control and not release it.
ALSO:
Download " The Ultimate Trouble shooter "
this will allow you to stop and remove it plus a lot of other units
Hope this helps!

Re: Fahcore_81.exe
Thanks guys...I did see the comments on what you said Migs in some other links. I'm also quite anal about rebooting after loading apps/patches..so that won't be the case for me.
I'll try and find the software you mentioned.
Jansen
I'll see if I can find the software...alternatively I'll mail you some software that checks your entire PC for out-of-date drivers and then updates them for you.

That would be cool Martin, I found some of those on the web but they all about R300 or more.Deckard717 wrote:I'll see if I can find the software...alternatively I'll mail you some software that checks your entire PC for out-of-date drivers and then updates them for you.

Re: Fahcore_81.exe
Deckard... a simple tool to diagnose this is "Process Explorer" which can be downloaded from www.sysinternals.com
It will show you all services running and allows you to suspend and kill ones that you normally can not.
The best way to remove a virus from a machine:
- load virus scan software (ready to press start on scanning)
- run Process Explorer
- Use process Explorer to suspend the following services:
- explorer.exe
- all rundll32.exe services
- winlogon.exe
- Use the ALT+TAB to move back to your virus scan utility (as mouse and keyboard will no longer function
- once completed, restart your machine with a power shutdown.
Check your machine's performance there after.

Re: Fahcore_81.exe
Thanks guys....I will try Eclipses "CURE" and Morphs suggestions...as far as formating..mmm..not keen on it as I did it recently..but then I will have to find 3 hours spare to do it.
Will...I'll check the size of the programs and mail them to you...maybe a few mails..to keep the size down.

Re: Fahcore_81.exe
Hi Eclipse..this link appears broken:
http://software-files.download.com/sd/Qoq_9G-HPe7wrM3La4jP1t2F_y8h1WEaCB95GE9bcgWWrzjyf4ZfuhBLlD_Jh78f-FCWGF1IMbtBQQ0xxQFHQ5YONAOzg8JF/software/10896905/10804572/3/mbam-setup.exe?lop=link&ptype=1901&ontid=8022&siteId=4&edId=3&spi=ebcaa59d73dded426403c61017277f02&pid=10896905&psid=10804572
Have you got another one I can try or the name of the software?
Migs
I looked for the software you sent me...it is not free (unless I'm seeing wrong)..if not free I will try a copy somewhere

Re: Fahcore_81.exe
When I was searching for this in my PC yesterday I found the app sitting in a crack for a game I had. I was not using the crack so I did not look into it.
I've dug around some more..it is a Folding At Home app that was running in the background. It must have had some "date" stamp in it as it has been on my PC for the last 3 weeks and only kicked off yesterday.
Anyway..had to kill the tree it was under...delete the whole crack..just need to reboot to finally see if it is gone.
Oh..and Morph...thanks for the links to the "Process Monitor" and "Process Explorer"..they are very handy tools.

Migs... you have lots to learn about the art of "Pot Stirring"
Rule 1 : NEVER admit you were joking
Rule 2 : Never pick on someone who is likely to turn it into real life revenge ! :P
