Northern Strike - Correct installation procedures to prevent PB kicks

Last night various players had difficulty in joining the Northern Strike server and got kicked by Punkbuster. The reason for this is that Northern Strike and patch 1.5 does not gel well and installing NS after patch 1.5 seems to work on face value, but if you join the server you get kicked for modified content.

Deckard said that I can post the instructions here for those that do not visit the SGS forums. Here are the instructions on how to correctly install Northern Strike so that you are not kicked by Punkbuster when you join the server.

1. Install BF2142. If you have 1.5 on your machine and not yet NS, then you have to uninstall your game and reinstall.

2. Install patch 1.4. This is because NS works well with 1.4. I am not sure if it works with 1.25 as well, but the procedure works with 1.4.

3. Install NS.

4. Install patch 1.4 again. This sounds silly, but there are files installed by NS that need to be updated again.

5. Install patch 1.5. This will now update all the correct files for both 2142 and NS.

6. Do a manual Punkbuster upgrade. The way to do this is to download the setup file here. Run the file and it will install. Select BF2142 and add the game. Do an update.

You should now be able to connect to the NS server without being kicked.

If you do not yet have NS, then you need to do the following procedures:

1. Upgrade your classic EA account. Upgrade your classic EA account to the new EA profile account login system direct link here. You will know that you have the new account when you log in with your email address compared to your on-screen name.

2. Download the new EA download manager by following the link on the veteran page and install it.

3. Login with your new email account login in the download manager.

4. The left bottom of the download manager has a link to the EA store. Follow it and purchase the NS download file for R199. It downloads a file of 164MB. The download file is stored in the c:\program data\...\BF2142_BP1 directory and is called setup.exe. Backup this file for future installs.

Note: Once you have your new account login, you can go into the veteran page above and link in all your BF games to get your veterans rank.

Hope to see you on the Nothern Strike server. Wouldnt it be nice to earn all those unlocks and use it in vanilla 2142...
